OK, so yes I know I'm behind and this seems to be old news. But, here I am finally updating my pictures and I have been informed that I must include the picture of me jumping off the Roman bridge. So here it is, even though I hate this picture, and the story to go with it. So, camp was great. We all had a good time bonding and playing around, and I took so many pictures that I am having a very hard time deciding which ones to send. Most of you will see them when I get home though. First of all there was an amazing old Roman bridge over a gorgeous river. I t was about 30 feet off the water, so a bunch of us got on life vests and jumped off. When they asked me to describe it later, my English teacher would have been proud when I summed it up in one word: breathtaking. It's this incredible falling feeling and you watch the water get closer and think "why in the world did I do this?" and then you actually hit the water and it's the same feeling as if you've been punched in the stomach in that you lose all your air and can't tell which way is up. I took a strong kick off the bottom and surfaced taking a huge breath. Then everyone is yelling "Are you ok?" and you don't have enough air to reply. So you prove you're fine by swimming to the shore, not a problem for someone with a strong stroke. And there you have it, bridge jumping. We also played Capture the Flag and had a Talent Show and watched the sunset and had a campfire and just played games and worshiped. Our speaker was good. Rob Cain is the campus minister at the University of Alabama. Ethan and Anna and I treated him to "Rocky Top" during the talent show. No one else really got it though, because growing up in Spain, these kids don't follow American football. There are more stories too, but they can be shared later. So suffice it to say, camp was great. |
